Spam and Spyware

Spam generally refers to unwanted commercial e-mail that is typically sent in bulk to thousands or even millions of recipients. Stopping spam and spyware is not easy. Here are spam affects an organization in several ways :

  1. Productivity, spam wastes peoples time, maybe a little, maybe a lot.
  2. Support cost, many users call the helpdesk to complain about spam and to ask that it be stopped.
  3. Liability, a different angle on liability may result when employees find themselves victims of phishing scams that were delivered to their inboxes.
  4. Overhead, the additional volume of spam is filling up networks, servers, and mailboxes.
  5. Malware, an increasing percentage of spam contains malicious code like viruses, worms, and trojan horses
